The Public Art Program

For more than 10 years, the City of Mountain View has built a collection of art and instituted an arts program using a public/private partnership, community involvement and minimal public funds. The program has three major components:

Public Project Percent for Art

City policy requires that one percent of the budget for all major public projects ($1 million or more) be devoted to art.

Public Gallery Program

The Visual Arts Committee displays temporary exhibits by Bay Area artists within City Hall and the Center for the Performing Arts.

Public Art Access

Design incentives encourages the use of art in major new commercial and industrial projects.  This program has resulted in the largest component of the City's collection.

Public Art in Mountain View

The City of Mountain View has published a guide to the public art in Mountain View - both city - and corporate-owned. A limited number of copies of the "Public Art in Mountain View" guide will be available by contacting Joanne Francis in the Community Development Department at (650) 903-6379.
