At 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009, the Mountain View Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a residence at 118 Flynn Avenue. Upon arrival firefighters found smoke coming from a second story residence at the address. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack and were able to confine the fire to the area of origin which limited damage to the home. Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. No damage estimate is available at this time.
No injuries were reported during this incident. The residence was unoccupied and currently undergoing renovations.
The Mountain View Fire Department wants fire safety to be your top priority during Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10. The theme of this year’s campaign, “Stay Fire Smart! Don’t Get Burned,” focuses on preventing the leading causes of home fires – cooking, heating and electrical equipment, and smoking materials in addition to burn prevention. Most home fires are easily preventable when we narrow our focus and take personal steps to increase our safety. One way to do this is by proactively combing through each room in your home to find signs of danger and fix them. The Mountain View Fire Department is encouraging residents and their families to put their safety first by performing a home hazard inspections during Fire Prevention Week. You can download a checklist from www.firepreventionweek.org.
