MVPD Investigates and Makes Arrests on Attempted Homicide Case
On January 9, 2008 at approximately 11:08pm, Mountain View Police Department detectives and officers arrested two Norteno gang members believed to have committed an attempted homicide on January 6, 2008.  Jacob Dewitt (Mountain View resident, white male adult born 8/5/88) was arrested during a car stop on the off ramp from Highway 85 to Moffett Blvd.  George Oseida (San Jose resident, Hispanic adult born 12/21/86), who fled from that same car stop, was arrested soon after on the Steven’s Creek Trail near Whisman Park.

On January 6, 2008, at approximately 3:23pm, the victim (whose name is being withheld for his protection) was sitting outside of his apartment complex, located in the 600 block of Escuela Avenue, when he was suddenly attacked by two subjects he did not know.  The victim was punched about the face and head numerous times and was also stabbed repeatedly in the torso area.  The suspects fled and the victim sought help from a neighbor, who called 9-1-1.  He was transported to a local area hospital where he is still being treated for his serious injuries.  He is expected to survive.

The investigation revealed the stabbing was gang-motivated and the suspects were local Norteno gang members.  Based on the descriptions of the attackers, Mountain View detectives and officers of the department’s Gang Suppression Team were able to compile photo lineups.  The victim positively identified DeWitt and Oseida as the suspects.

Detectives located DeWitt and Oseida together in DeWitt’s vehicle.  When the officers stopped the vehicle, Oseida, who also had an active outstanding warrant for a robbery that had occurred in Mountain View, fled on foot into the Stevens Creek Trail area.  DeWitt was arrested without incident at the car stop.

Officers and detectives, including officers from Sunnyvale DPS and Los Altos PD, searched for Oseida.  He was later located hiding on the Stevens Creek Trail by a Sunnyvale DPS K9 Officer and his canine partner.  Oseida resisted arrest and was taken into custody with the use of the police canine.  Oseida received injuries during the arrest and was treated at a local area hospital prior to being incarcerated.  Both suspects were booked into San Jose Main Jail.

During the investigation, officers and detectives developed probable cause to arrest Miguel Ortega (Hispanic adult born 9/16/89) for his role in attempting to aid and ultimately harbor Oseida as he fled from police.  Ortega was arrested without incident and was also booked into San Jose Main Jail.

Both Oseida and DeWitt are Norteno gang members and additional gang enhancement charges were added.  Oseida received additional charges for resisting arrest and for violating his probation terms.  The robbery warrant charges were also added.

The robbery warrant that was served on Oseida stemmed from a robbery that occurred in Mountain View on December 11, 2007, at the Safeway store located at 1750 Miramonte Ave.

This investigation is ongoing.  More information will be released as it becomes available.
